KUALA LUMPUR (May 31): UEM Sunrise Bhd (KL:UEMS) has partnered with Logos Infrastructure Holdco Pte Ltd to explore the opportunity to develop a data centre campus in Gerbang Nusajaya, Johor.
According to a media statement on Friday, the two parties had inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at a closed-door ceremony in Singapore to signify the beginning of the partnership to elevate the digital and high-technology industries in Johor, leveraging Iskandar Malaysia's geographic advantage. Also present at the ceremony were representatives of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).
The proposed data centre campus development will be located on a 74-acre (29.95-hectare) site in Gerbang Nusajaya in Johor, with a planned development potential capacity of up to 360MW. UEM Sunrise will be collaborating with Logos in several areas, including end-to-end construction management, technical work, and assisting in government-related processes, such as licensing applications and securing state approvals.
In the statement, UEM Sunrise chief executive officer Sufian Abdullah said: "We are capitalising on our vast land bank in Iskandar Malaysia, and actively seek synergies and opportunities to develop our Industrial segment. We are committed to establishing the proposed data centre campus together with Logos, and confident of its role as a catalyst of Johor’s economic growth."
Meanwhile, Logos head of data centres Paul Dwyer said that Johor Bahru's strategic location near Singapore, coupled with Malaysia's robust digital infrastructure plans and strong government support, makes it a prime hub for the burgeoning data centre sector in Southeast Asia. “This growth is exciting, and we look forward to working in partnership alongside UEM Sunrise and being a key player in this dynamic market."
