On 11 January 2019, in the presence of Datuk Dr. Mary Wong Lai Lin, Vice-Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), UEM Sunrise pledged to collaborate with KPKT and the National Registration Department to initiate and launch its inaugural community library project, BukuHub, at People’s Housing Projects (PPR) Bandar Uda Utama, Johor.
On 15 February 2019, BukuHub was launched by YB Puan Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin, Minister of Housing and Local Government in the presence of YB Tuan Sr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Johor Housing and Rural Development Committee Chairman. BukuHub represents UEM Sunrise’s support of the new National Community Policy (DKN) introduced by the government. Among the potential measures under this policy include improving the overall living environment of the B40 group and adding more facilities in affordable housing developments.
The ceremony was also made official by YB Puan Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin, Minister of Housing and Local Government and En. Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise as they signed a plaque commemorating the launch of BukuHub and Key Handover Ceremony for PPR Bandar Uda Utama to the State Secretary of Johor (Housing and Local Government Division).
Finally, on 17 February 2019, more than 5,000 people turned up for the KPKT Community Carnival, held in conjunction with the launch of DKN at Padang Awam Puchong Indah. The carnival’s activities included community cycling, aerobics, kids’ soccer match, tug of war, colouring contest, an eco-market and food trucks. The public also got a chance to visit more than 40 booths showcasing the CSR works among PPRs by UEM Sunrise and the participating developers, EdgeProp.my as well as several NGOs and public service bodies.
The KPKT Community Carnival culminated with YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, presenting a special memento and certificate of appreciation to selected companies. En. Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer represented UEM Sunrise in collecting the memento and certificate, witnessed by YB Puan Hajah Zuraida Kamaruddin, Minister of Housing and Local Government; Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health; YB Mr. Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Communications and Multimedia; YAB Tuan Amirudin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor; Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Mentek, secretary-general, Ministry of Housing and Local Government; and Mr. Ng Sze Han, Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development Committee Chairman.
BukuHub is a key UEM Sunrise flagship initiative embracing its 2-pronged Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy – Education Enhancement and Community Engagement. It was initiated by a group of UEM Sunrise volunteers known as the titanSquad, which will be covering more locations including the UEM Sunrise adopted schools in the Central and Southern regions, Publika, Puteri Harbour, Bangi and Iskandar Puteri.
