Ah, Johor… The land of mee bandung Muar. Singapore’s friendly next-door neighbour. The place where kuda kepang and zapin reigned among fellow dancers. Johor is known for a myriad of wonders and culture – and one of the main stars of the show is Iskandar Puteri. 

Formerly known as Nusajaya, Iskandar Puteri is a sustainable metropolitan city in the centre of Johor Bahru. Located near Gelang Patah and Skudai, there are many hotspots in town if you’re looking to let your hair down. Here are some must-visits:

Explore the city for good food and panoramic views 

Put on your sailor hats, landlubbers! If you’re a sea lover, Puteri Harbour is a must-have on your bucket list. Lined with boats and ferries, this is the perfect place to enjoy a gorgeous sea view while unplugging your mind from the hectic city life. 

If you’re a foodie, you might want to check out some cool restaurants at Puteri Harbour with breathtaking views. Drop by the Skybar, Bar & Restaurant at Hotel JEN Johor Puteri Harbour and be blown away by the panoramic sea view (and an eye candy of an infinity pool – pack your OOTDs, boys and girls!). 

Alternatively, if you’d like to enjoy a night of live music, you can waltz into Hard Rock Café for live band performances on Tuesdays to Sundays starting from 8:30pm* for some feel-good jams.

The mall had a recent glow-up (Literally, you’ll see the mall light up at night) and we’re all about the aesthetics! Visit the mall and treat yourself to good food and a good shopping spree.

Flaunt your inner sportsman at Bukit Indah Recreational Park (Roundabout Course)

Slightly further up from Iskandar Puteri, this park’s distinctive attribute is its unique location – Bukit Indah Recreational Park is a public park cum disc golf course located at an actual roundabout. Disc golf is a flying disc sport where players throw discs at designated targets, which are essentially steel or metal baskets (Think frisbee!) and is played using rules parallel to golf.

Checked off your Iskandar Puteri bucket list but not ready to head home yet? Say hi to Iskandar Puteri’s next-door neighbour, Gelang Patah. 

Just less than a 20-minute drive, you can have a splash on the water slides at Forest City Water Park and sneak a swim by the adjoining beach decorated with Insta-worthy installations of marine animals.

If you’re a golf junkie, be sure to check out Senibong Golf Club, (Formerly known as Poresia Golf and Country Club before 2020) for a brisk swing in the fields.
